Appalachian Trail Hike - 2008
I flew to Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. and had a couple of hours before my train to Harper's Ferry, WV. Took advantage to walk from Union Station to the Capitol building and sighstsee. Made the 90 minute train ride to Harper's Ferry where I began this year's section hike. Leaving West Virginia, northbound and crossing the Potomac River via footbridge, the trail goes through northwest Maryland and into Pennslyvania. The hike had vastly different topography compared to my hike last summer through the Smokies. The altitudes were much lower, but the trail was extremely rocky and provided many opportunities to excel in my hiking technique. Unfortunately, about half-way through my hike, I had to terminate due to serious water shortages on the trail.
